Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday-Rollin’ In the 70’s

This week’s Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday theme is the glorious 70’s!  So how better to celebrate this glorious era than to…why yes…create a mix tape based on the top 5 songs that were played at the roller disco rink!  Thanks again to Jen Kehl at www.jenkehl.com for hosting this magnificent blog hop!  So everyone put their skates on and let’s get this party rollin’!

YMCA-Village People-This song makes me want to throw on my roller sneakers and get my skate on!  Oh…BTW…this song is very popular at weddings and Christmas Parties worldwide!

You Should Be Dancing-The Bee Gees-This song is the ultimate roller disco song right here!  Let’s not forget that this is also the BEST John Travolta dance scene EVER!  Oh and those Bee Gee brothers are kinda hot too…just sayin’!

  1. Question: Do you know the dance that goes with YMCA? I mean besides the letters part. I wasn't sure if my friends made the rest of it up or if it was something that everyone did!

The BeeGees-so many memories of them...

I love Heart of Glass-I remember that one being played at the roller rink!

    1. There is a dance that goes with YMCA? I am kind of a stumbling mess when it comes to dancing so I have a hard time even getting the letters to look right! hahahahahaaa! So now you have to YouTube the dance so that we can know what we were SUPPOSED to do when this song was on! ;)

  2. Disco is my guilty pleasure and I had already written up my disco post for this week when I stumbled upon a better idea. So I'll use it for 70's part 2. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one and you're choices are all so fantastic!

    1. I cannot lie...I totally skated to these songs and it was fantastic! I was was going to put the hokey pokey song on the list but oddly enough there were some weird selections to choose from on YouTube that were...funny but oh so WRONG! HAHAHAHAAAA!

  3. This is so awesome! Thank you for bringing the disco! I have two disco playlists on my iPod, One is short but sweet with the "best ofs" and the other one basically contains them all! Every time I need a little sunshine you can bet that's what's playing! I used to love to rollerskate, one of my favorites was Knock on Wood! I remember the rollerskate wind too! And the wall of heat coming off of me after skating for an hour or so straight!

  4. Nile Rodgers and I exchange twitter conversation every once in a while. One day, I got cocky and asked him if that song was a joke and he messaged me and "of course, but it was joke that made me a million dollars"

I know the punk rockers from CBGBs hated Blondie for making that record, but damn, it still works.

    good job

    1. Thanks! Yeah...I have to admit that Heart of Glass is one of my all time favorites and this song is proudly resting on my iPod waiting for it's turn to make me move FASTER while I run! ;)

  5. I love that YMCA is on here. You took me right back to the roller rink when I had my comb in my back pocket and tried to master the move where you skate along with one leg in front of you - the other bending down (does that make sense? it was a cool move). Thanks so much!

    1. OK...so I have yet another confession to make...I remember wearing these Ditto flared jeans with an embroidered rainbow on the back with a butterfly sleeved top trying to do that MASTER MOVE! I now have master move envy right now because I could NEVER do that move worth a crap! ;)

  8. This list is awesome!!! I love YMCA. I used to know the dance. And John Travolta........... I have a thing for him. I so agree, Blondie had the sexy smokey eye look long before it became the thing of today. I love disco and I didn't make it into the world until 1976, but I had a really groovy aunt. :)

    1. I remember trying to learn to skate backwards to Dancing Queen! I always put ABBA on my list so I had to zip tie my thumbs together as I penned this post to NOT put them on my list! ;) Oh and John Travolta is SO YUMMY in Saturday Night Fever...I just want to be his shirt...I just want to be his shirt! HHAHAHAHAHAAAA!
