Yet again I am STOKED to be blog hopping with Jen @
http://jenkehl.com/music/twisted-mix-tape-tuesday-11/ with yet another 60’s inspired mix tape Tuesday! I decided that I was going to dedicate this
week’s blog hop to why yes…the band’s that performed at the L.A. Whiskey a Go
Go in the 60’s! So let’s get this party
started…here we go:
Gloria-Them-This is such a classic song…it is also from the
movie the Outsiders in case anyone was wondering. Makes me want to go grab some popcorn and get
my Matt Dillon on!
The Byrds- Mr. Tambourine Man-What can I say? Oh yeah…this
song and Turn Turn Turn are the SHIZZ right here! Makes me want to turn, turn,
turn, in circles dancing to these tunes!
The Turtle’s-Happy Together-Hearing this song makes me think
of the Partridge Family with a dreamy David Cassidy!
The Doors-Break On Through (To the Other Side)-This song is
just CLASSIC! End of story…
OK…so there you go blogosphere! The top 5 songs that were played at the
famous L.A. Sunset Strip Whiskey A Go Go!
Now all of you ladies out there go on out and get those vinyl white Go
Go boots out of retirement and get your groove on! I know that I am…
I love The Doors, and this is a fantabulous list, but my favorite is The Turtles. My mom used to sing Happy Together to my 14-yo back when my 14-yo was an itty-bitty baby. ~sigh~ Memories!!
ReplyDeleteThat Turtles song brings back a lot of memories...my mother was a huge music freak as well and she used to sing this SONG all the time! Now...she was always out of tune...and it kind of sounded like a herd of banshees when she belted it out but nevertheless she sang it...and I remember it like it was yesterday! ;)
DeleteMy brother and I used to torment each other with who could sing Happy Together the worst.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I so wanted a pair of white go-go boots when I was five. Of course they didn't make them that small and I'd cry every time we'd pass a shoe store.
Oh...I totally understand the boot envy here! My sister had a white pair and she used to wear them all the time and prance around the house singing ANYTHING that was Partridge Family related! I wanted those boots SO bad...oh and David Cassidy was kind of cute too...I kind of wanted him too! HAHAHAHAAA! ;)
DeleteOK so I love the fact that it was totally acceptable for women to dance in cages in the sixties! Love this list, everyone! Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI totally want one of those dresses with the fringe on it and then get my GROOVE ON...being a cage is just a BONUS! HAHAHAHAAAAA! Thanks again for this glorious HOP! ;)
DeleteGreat list...um, I think. I had a hard time focusing after you mentioned Matt Dillon...yum.
ReplyDeleteI know Kim...Matt Dillon...he is quite yummy and he looks extra HOT in the Outsiders! ;)
Delete'G'- 'L'- 'O'- 'R'- 'I'- 'A'.... lol very cool tune. (I was not aware that Van Morrison was in the band that did that!) One of the very neat things about these hops, at least for those of us who find (nearly) everything interesting about the music of a decade.
ReplyDeleteGreat List
OK...so I have to admit that I was singing that song all over my house after I penned this blog hop! I had forgotten how GOOD that song is...I especially like to crank it up really loud and then BELT out G L O R I A at the top of my lungs! It is a great stress reliever...we should tell Dr. Oz about our amazing discovery! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!
DeleteVery Nice!!! I love the two pics of the Go-Go Dancers...
ReplyDeleteVan Morrison is awesome. Really enjoyed, Slu
Thanks! I really did enjoy looking at all of those pictures from the 60's...I had a hard time picking just two that were taken from inside the club. It's kind of crazy how many people there are just gettin' down...so impressive! ;)
DeleteWell, of course to the Doors. I was probably one of the only people who liked the movie. But I had to give you props for Happy Together. My husband and I adopted this as our family song after our first daughter was born. Cheesy, but it just has so many good memories for me now. Never knew they played the Whiskey.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the props! :) Happy Together really is such a "happy" song...I really cannot listen to that song without thinking well being HAPPY! So cheesy....I know! ;)
